lucylucky Great stuff. Reminds me of 90’s rock. Album jams straight through from beginning to end with no filler tracks. Lots of variation between songs from ballads (Suicide in K Minor - another fave) to the metal-esque Rock is Dead. Favorite track: Rock is Dead.

1.
You see it coming There’s nothing you can do But keep on acting out the same old script Nature culls the masses Addition by subtraction No way to hide from your eternal crypt [Chorus] My coping mechanisms They keep me high when I am low Trade the truth for ignorance to keep away the emptiness 2022 Eight billion years to go Until the sun decides to swallow the earth Run in a circle Chasing down a purpose That’s how we reconcile our pointless birth [Chorus]
2.
Interpret everything to mean That you were born to lose Victim mentality So when the final score is tallied don’t you know? You get what you deserve Guilt trip all of society Your plea is well rehearsed but I’ve got no sympathy When no one reaches out to lend a helping hand You get what you deserve Wish for enforced equality Since you don’t measure up you need a referee By propping up the weak you sacrifice the strong That’s why equality is wrong When something’s left to be desired That’s when I feel the most inspired Take what I want and call my own I don’t need you I walk alone Take my time Take what’s mine Take my time I’m gonna take what’s mine You never try to help yourself Depend on everybody else You never change You never learn That’s why you’ll get what you deserve
3.
I dream of far off lands that keep my hope alive Will I arrive before I die? Looking back I cannot say I’ve done that much No one to love No one to touch Life has reduced me cut me down I feel the knife But death is my weapon against life All roads have led to this and now there’s nothing left except Taking solace in my suicide No more pain No more regrets Put me out of my misery so I can Just be with my maker forever No more pain No more regrets One bullet away From meeting my maker forever
4.
Sitting by the river Beer in my hand Waiting till the day I die It makes me wanna cry People think I’m crazy cause I talk to myself That’s cause I’m the only friend that I can talk to [Chorus] Hey baby I want to kill you tonight I know you You want to kill me too Ever since we fell in love that’s how we do it When we say “I love you” Every kiss is a bruise Singing Persian Delta Blues Another round of hopelessness is headed my way Reminding me of who I am no matter what I say Seeds of desperation take root in my soul Everyone around me pays the price as my sadness grows [Chorus] Bring it on down Take me back to the delta Take me back down that road that never ends
5.
Rock is Dead 03:45
Another song on the radio I wanna like it but I just don’t know if I can take any more Is this a practical joke? She was driving down the highway as the sky was turning red She heard a bang! bang! bang! And here’s exactly what she said “I wanna travel back in time to hear the music in my head” Give me a Rock is dead! Rock is dead! You killed it! [Chorus] When I was just a boy and I was finding my way There was no one to relate to me Till I got turned on to rock ’n roll to release my negativity There’s only one feeling that I understand and it’s the only feeling you can’t give So I sold my soul to rock n’ roll to fill the hole that you left in me Guilty of musical hypocrisy No melody as far as I can see As best as I can tell looks like the joke’s on me It’s been a long hard ride since rock ’n roll has died With a bang! bang! bang! And it cannot be revived They say that porno pop’s the killer and that right before she fled she said Rock is dead! Rock is dead! [Chorus]
6.
Destructive thoughts arise in a world obsessed with lies But now it’s time to leave those all behind Cause I’ve finally found a place to escape and leave no trace A space where even thoughts leave me alone [Chorus] Don’t try to find me here These stone walls make me disappear Rid my mind of world affairs So I can breathe the naked air Life was my battleground The war has stopped but then I found In peace the warlike man attacks himself Each thought on which I dwell is another steel bar in my prison cell I need the pin drop silence of the Hall [Chorus] The Regulations of the Auxiliary Cloud Hall Will light your soul on fire as you’re staring at the wall The Regulations of the Auxiliary Cloud Hall Where emptiness turns into love for all The Regulations of the Auxiliary Cloud Hall No attachment to anything at all
7.
Born a stranger in my own land My home is foreign to me Soldiers in gray knocking at my door Seek quarter in New Orleans I walk the streets Everybody stares at me A contradiction they see This place I’ve always known Banished me and now I roam But I’ve got nowhere to flee Deep in the south I was born in the Confederate States of America Dissonance spreads across the southern states Look to the past for your future There you’ll find your identity And when you’ve finally denied it You’ve killed your worst enemy Don’t think Don’t speak Just look at me like I’m a freak Too weak to think on your own Identity denied Now I’m forced to look inside To find myself from within Deep in the south I was born in the Confederate States of America
8.
You gave me life and lost your own Two minus one Your broken mind left me behind Don’t leave me now The hour came when you were told: Now you must die But from your grave your ghost will rise t(w)o make us three Death you expect but cannot believe when it’s your turn to die Close your eyes Say goodbye And disbelief turns into love…for you One: your ghost Two: me Three: your memory Is living proof that two really can equal three There is no way to explain how you became My lifelong friend till the end Death will set us free In life you’d connect what was left of me to my past and now you’re gone Close your eyes Say goodbye And disbelief turns into love…for you All in all I can’t believe All in all I can’t believe All in all I can’t believe All in all I won’t believe you’re gone
9.
Flameleaf 03:53
I put my dreams on hold for you Just to follow the beaten road Do exactly as I’m told A look of fear in your eyes A human soul in disguise Your future hidden from view You can’t see that your… [Pre-chorus] Dreams raced by a long time ago Now it’s too late You’ll never know You can’t believe it You can’t deny it Words cannot describe it A feeling of regret eating away at you With every compromise A piece of your soul dies Somebody made your choice You got nothing cause… [Pre-chorus] [Chorus] Why do you try to feel alive in an alien way? Reaching out for words that you can’t say You thought you could play the part of a God Live a life in the stars And you keep on crawling back for more

about

Southern Dissonance is the debut album by Kevin the Persian.

Southern Dissonance was recorded over several months in 2021 in a tiny room in an old industrial building in New Orleans with no access to the outside world...meaning no internet (I don't own a cell phone). The goal was to go deep on each song with zero distractions for several hours at a time. Since most of the music I grew up loving was composed in a pre-internet world, I wanted to replicate that creative process as much as possible for Southern Dissonance to explore unorthodox musical and lyrical directions.
